For the first time in the 50-year history of College Bowl, a five-member team of Baylor University students will compete for the College Bowl National Championship April 23-25 at Auburn University-Montgomery in Alabama.
Team members Seth Boutin, John Solter, Krystle Walker, Evelyn Lamb and Golda Waselovich won the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region XII College Bowl Championship, hosted Feb. 20-22 by the University of Houston. Sponsored by the Baylor department of student union, the Baylor team defeated a 16-team field that included former national championship competitors University of Arkansas and LSU. The team is advised by Dr. Brent Froberg, lecturer in the classics department.
At the National Championship in April, the Baylor team will compete against a prestigious field of universities that includes Dartmouth, Cornell, SUNY-Stony Brook, Georgetown, Davidson, Florida, Michigan, Chicago, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Minnesota, Truman State, Colorado State, Washington and UCLA. The main tournament is a full round robin contest with each team playing every other team. Round robin games will be played Friday and Saturday, April 23-24. The NCT playoff format is four-team double-elimination and will be held on Sunday, April 25.
College Bowl's relationship with the Association of College Unions International dates back to 1976 when the College Bowl campus program was inaugurated, with ACUI serving as CB's educational partner. ACUI provides a direct link to its member campuses and provides a significant volunteer pool which helps organize and administer the College Bowl program on campuses around the country, at regionals and at the National Championship Tournament.
