WACO, Texas - Presenters will come from Scotland, New England, California, and across the South to participate in the Colloquium on Baptist Church Music Sept. 24-25 at Truett Theological Seminary, Room 107.

As part of the commemoration of the founding of the first Baptist church in 1609, the Center for Christian Music Studies at Baylor University is sponsoring this scholarly event.

"This will be a unique event, because, as far as I am aware, this is the first time a scholarly conference has been devoted exclusively to the study of church music among Baptists," said Dr. David Music, professor of church music.

The presenters include professors from Baylor and other universities, local church ministers of music, laypersons and a music librarian. Scholars were invited to submit proposals for papers dealing with the history, philosophy, or practice of church music among Baptists. Only fourteen were accepted for presentation at the Colloquium.

Paper subjects range from "Hymns and the Baptist Presidents" to "Calvinism vs. Arminianism in Baptist Church Music" to Baptist hymns to music from world cultures.

Baylor faculty members and students are welcome to attend any sessions, but meals and snacks are reserved for official registrants.
