Inaugural Environmental Health Science Seminar Features Renowned U.K. Researcher

Baylor's new Environmental Health Science Program and department of Environmental Science will host its inaugural Environmental Health Science Seminar featuring Dr. Alistair Boxall from the University of York. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, in the Baylor Sciences Building in room B110.
Boxall, co-director of the EcoChemistry Research Group and senior lecturer of environmental science at the University of York, will present his lecture, "Climate Change and Risks from Agricultural Agents," which will discuss the implications of climate change for changes in human and environmental exposures to pathogens and chemicals in agricultural systems. He also will discuss the subsequent effects on ecosystems and human health.
Boxall is co-leader of the EcoChemistry Research Group, a joint initiative between the University of York and the Defra Food and Environment Research Agency. The group specializes in the fate, effects and risk assessment of chemicals in the environment. Boxall also coordinates a large number of research products in this area.
He regularly works for numerous national and international organizations including the U.K. Environment Agency, the U.K. Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Health and Safety Executive, The European Commission the American Water Works Research Foundation and several chemical manufacturers.
Boxall also is a member of the U.K. Government Veterinary Products Committee, the U.K. Advisory Committee on Hazardous Substances, a member of the European Food Safety Authority Working Group on Risk Assessment of Feed Additives and a member of the U.K. Government Nanotechnology Research Co-ordination Group Exposure Taskforce.
Boxall regularly presents his work at scientific conferences around the world and has written more than 70 publications.
