This year, Baylor University students, faculty and staff will take a break from the spring semester to celebrate "Diapalooza," the 75th annual Diadeloso, on Thursday, April 23, at Fountain Mall on the Baylor campus. With an all-day music festival and more student involvement, the 2009 Diadeloso promises to be one of the most successful yet.
Diadeloso is one of Baylor's most beloved traditions that began in the spring of 1934 so that students could have a break from classes and enjoy a "play day" with their classmates. The name of the event has changed through the years from "All University Day" to "Physical Fitness Day" to "May Day." In 1966, the student body voted to officially name the event "Diadeloso" or "The Day of the Bear."
Students may participate in a number of tournament games throughout the day, including tug of war, sand volleyball, indoor soccer, co-ed Ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, racquetball and tennis.
The Dia Dog Show, one of the newest Diadeloso traditions, also will take place at 11 a.m. During the dog show, students will be able to show off their canine friends as they compete for the titles of Best Dressed, Best Trick and Peoples' Choice.
"Diapalooza" will feature artists from the Baylor Rising Artist Network, the greater Waco area as well as national acts including Dave Barnes, Eisley and Judas Feet. Other entertainment throughout the day includes a variety of live performances. The schedule of events is as follows:
? 10:30 - 11 a.m. Baylor Spirit Squad
? 11 - 11:30 a.m. Swing Dance Society
? 11:30 - noon Dia Dog Show
? Noon - 1 p.m. Dia Step Show

While all residence hall dining facilities will be closed, the noon picnic lunch will consist of hot dogs, chopped beef sandwiches, rope sausage, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, Dr Pepper products and Blue Bell ice cream for dessert. Card readers will be available for those students with meal plans or lunch may be purchased.
This year's Diadeloso apparel comes in v-necks as well as traditional t-shirts. The v-necks are available in black and purple ($15) and the t-Shirts come in cherry red, sapphire blue and black ($12). Diadeloso t-shirts may be purchased at the event.
