Baylor Welcomes February Chapel Speakers

Baylor University's department of spiritual life hosts Chapel speakers every Monday and Wednesday at 9:05 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall on the Baylor campus. This February, students will be inspired by faith-based entrepreneurs, performers, pastors and Baylor alumni.

Feb. 2 - Ballet Magnificat! is an arts organization devoted to presenting the good news of Christ to the world. Their professional touring companies perform nationally and internationally, ministering to audiences in the United States, Canada, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Greece, Singapore, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

Feb. 4 - Max Lucado, an author known for his signature storytelling and writing style, was named "America's Best Preacher" in 2005. He also serves as the Senior Pastor of the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio for the past 20 years.

Feb. 9 - Jane Hampton Cook is a best-selling author and columnist best known for making history both memorable and relevant for today's news, political events and issues of faith. The 1992 Baylor alumna served two years as White House deputy director of Internet news services and three years in the Texas governor's office. She has emerged as a fresh voice of patriotism through her prolific portrayals of modern-day heroes and historic Americans.

Feb. 11 - Suzii Paynter, a Baylor alumnus, is the director of the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and speaks to Texas Baptists on a range of issues related to ethics and public policy. Paynter currently serves on the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Coordinating Council and is a recent board member and officer of the Baptist Joint Committee, Washington D.C.

Feb. 16 - Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir was started through a student's determination to be an instrument of God through singing praises. On Oct. 18, 1988, the choir held its first rehearsal with 15 students who wanted to use their talents to glorify God. The choir has grown over the past 14 years and is a living testimony to the power of God.

Feb. 18 - Father Timothy Vaverek is a local Catholic priest at St. Joseph's Church, who wrote his dissertation on Baptist and Catholic relations. He is an informative representative for the Catholic perspective to the Baylor community.

Feb. 23 - Dan Merchant, now a veteran of the entertainment industry, was a writer, director and producer, who made his debut as a feature documentary director with Lord, Save Us From Your Followers.

Feb. 25 - Carrie Newcomer is a singer/songwriter, who encourages listeners to slow down and reflect on the small things that make life worthwhile. As Rolling Stone wrote, "Newcomer asks the right questions and refuses to settle for easy answers."
