Statement From Baylor Men's Basketball Coach Dave Bliss

July 22, 2003

Baylor head men's basketball coach Dave Bliss spoke to the media Tuesday, July 22, about recent news regarding missing Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy:

"Each of us associated with the basketball program and Baylor University is obviously shaken by the events that have occurred since yesterday. We keep hoping this isn't true. It seems unreal, especially that a 21-year-old who always wore that big smile and couldn't wait for the season to begin might be gone.
"I wish we knew more. We don't know why, and we don't know what happened. But we continue to offer our thoughts and prayers to Patrick's family.
"At this time I'd like to reiterate that Patrick never reported any threats to the coaching staff, contrary to the many various news reports.
"We continue to be in contact with our players, and counseling is being offered. Right now, our primary concern is to assist those that are struggling with the fact that a teammate is missing.
"Because the police investigation is in a critical stage, I am unable to share any more with you. As soon as more is available, however, I will be back with you. Thank you."
