Baylor Welcomes October Chapel Speakers

Baylor University's department of spiritual life hosts chapel speakers every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Waco Hall on the Baylor campus. This October, students will be inspired from faith-based entrepreneurs, students, pastors and Baylor alumni.

Oct. 1- Kelly Shushok is a Baylor graduate, mother and minister. Before returning to Waco in the Summer of 2001, Kelly served as Minister of Small Groups and Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, Md. She was recently elected as a deacon for Calvary Baptist Church in Waco.

Oct. 6- Nicole Brumley is the founder and director of One-VOICE enterprises. She is a spokesperson on sexual abuse and assault and is frequently a featured guest in magazines, television and radio broadcasts across America.

Oct 8- Gideon Tsang is one of the pastors of a church community in Austin called Vox Veniae. He has served as the interim teaching pastor at UBC in Waco.

Oct. 13- Jenne Blackburn is a senior at Baylor. She is serving as co director for Missions Week 2008 and is founder and president of Omega Kids, an organization raising money and awareness for the children of Kenya, Guatemala, India, China and the U.S. Blackburn has overseen growth within the organization over the last two years since its refocused vision following a Baylor mission trip to Kenya in 2006.

Oct. 15- Rebecca A. Kennedy started working at Baylor in 1997. Currently she serves as Associate Chaplain, Director for Missions. Kennedy oversees university-sponsored missions at Baylor which includes global missions, local missions and Missions Week.

Oct. 20- Justin McRoberts, a highly respected singer and speaker, is a rare artist who blends artistry, honesty and humor. He believes songwriting is a way to help people to see their world differently.

Oct. 22- Julie Pennington-Russell has been at Decatur First Baptist since August of 2007. Prior to moving to Decatur, Julie served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Waco and Nineteenth Avenue Baptist Church in San Francisco.

Oct. 29- Paul Basden is a graduate of Baylor and serves as senior Pastor of Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco where he teaches at weekend services and leads Men's and Compassion Ministries.

Baylor will present a Homecoming chapel on Oct. 27, under the leadership of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce. The history of homecoming, the schedule of events, how students can get involved and Homecoming Queen nominees will be presented.
