The Tri Delta Sorority at Baylor University will host its annual kickball tournament this Thursday, Sept. 25, through Friday, Sept. 26, at the fields behind the Baylor Sciences Building. The Kicks for Kids campus-wide tournament will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , as well as the Kidsville Wing at HBMC in Waco.
"This is our second time hosting 'Kicks for Kids,' and we are excited for another successful year. It's a great way for the entire campus to come together and have a fun and enjoyable time while supporting a very important and philanthropic cause," said Rebecca Naden, philanthropy event chair.
The opening ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a welcoming by Anna Stephenson, president of Tri Delta; Rachael Chambers, philanthropy chair; Naden; and several cancer survivors. The games will start at 5 p.m. Sorority members will serve as umpires and coaches for the participating teams.
Local businesses such as Brothers Management, Bear Cotton, La Quinta Inn, Backyard Burger, George's Restaurant, H.E.B., Fazoli's, Subway and Domino's Pizza have made generous donations. Prizes and raffles include gift cards to the participating sponsors.
T-shirts will be on sale this week in Memorial and Collins Residence Halls and at the tournament itself. The t-shirt serves as a free ticket for food and fun activities such as cake walks, raffles and door prizes. Half of the proceeds will go to St. Jude's hospital and the other half will benefit Hillcrest Kidsville.
Naden had the opportunity to visit St. Jude in Memphis, Tenn., this past July. "Visiting St. Jude made the Beta Tau chapter of Tri Delta truly realize why we have St. Jude as our national philanthropy," Naden said. "The doctors, nurses and staff at St. Jude truly care for their patients and researching new methods for treatment and essentially, a cure. We are more than willing to help St. Jude in whatever way we can."
