Baylor University's Annual Fiesta, formerly known as Fiesta on the River, will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the Vara Daniel Plaza and SUB Bowl area outside the Bill Daniel Student Center. The event is sponsored by the Hispanic Student Association in conjunction with the Department of Student Activities and the Office of Campus Programs.

"Fiesta is an end-of-year celebration before finals including free food, family fun, cultural performances and fellowship," said Mike Riemer, associate director of student activities. "It is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to unwind before finals begin."

The event is being held in conjunction with Sigma Alpha Epsilon's first salsa festival benefiting the Children's Miracle Network.

Del Castillo, a Latin band from Austin, will be headlining the event which will also feature a traditional Mexican band, Jubileo.

Other activities include a children's carnival, Latin dancing, and free food and drinks. The Ballet Folklorico from the University of Texas-Pan America will perform as well as the Ballet Folklorico from Baylor.

"The Hispanic culture is prevalent throughout Baylor and the Central Texas Community and this program celebrates that heritage and is an opportunity for non-Hispanic members of the Baylor and surrounding communities to experience a culture different from their own," Riemer said.

The event is free and open to the public.
