Baylor University Student Activities will host its second service agency fair during Dr Pepper Hour from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the McLane Student Life Center on Baylor's campus.

Students are invited to enjoy a Dr Pepper float and gather information about the many agencies that serve in the Waco community.

Karin Klinger, associate director of student activities, believes the fair gives students an understanding of the vast array of service opportunities that exist in Waco.

"We believe that every student has a passion that can meet a need in our community," she said. "To whom much is given, much is expected. Baylor students are tremendously blessed to attend a University that places such significance and value on service. Every student who attends Baylor has the opportunity to positively and permanently impact the Waco community - if only he or she will try," she said.

Student Activities hosted a service fair earlier in the month on Aug. 18, in conjunction with First Step during Welcome Week. This second fair, occurring during Dr Pepper Hour, is expected to bring 300 - 400 students, Klinger said.

First Step was a community service project designed for Baylor University freshmen that happened during Welcome Week. The university hoped that the event would instill in students a dedication to service.

Approximately 1,200 new students provided clean-up efforts to dozens of Downtown Waco businesses and locations as well as worked to frame a house for Habitat for Humanity.

"The desire to do something good pulls everyone together in Baylor Habitat," said Sonya Maness, a senior archaeology and museum studies major from Houston and president of Baylor Habitat for Humanity.

The second service fair has a list of agencies planning to attend including Mission Waco, Big Brothers and Sisters, Heart of Texas Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse, Waco Center of Youth and the Family Abuse Center.
