Baylor University will be helping Buckner Baptist Benevolences this week with "Shoes for Orphan Souls," an annual drive to collect new shoes for children living in orphanages in Russia, Romania and China.
Baylor students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to donate new shoes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7-11 in the Student Involvement Center located in the basement of the Bill Daniel Student Center, Robinson Tower or the McLane Student Life Center.
All donated shoes must be closed-toed, such as sneakers, pumps, heels, boots or loafers. Shoelaces and socks also are needed. Sizes may range from a children's size seven to an adult-size 11.
Buckner Baptist Benevolence is a Dallas-based ministry that hopes to collect 50,000 shoes for orphans. Buckner, which was founded in 1879, is one of the oldest and largest non-profit organization programs in 25 Texas communities.
Last May, Baylor students, faculty and staff members donated 500 teddy bears for Buckner's "Bear the Burden" campaign to collect stuffed bears for abused and neglected children through Texas.
