WACO, TX -- Bill and Eva Williams of Scottsdale, Ariz., have been selected as Baylor University's Parents of the Year for 2006. The couple was honored during the halftime ceremony of the Baylor vs. Army football game Sept. 23 in Waco, Texas.

"In recognizing Bill and Eva Williams as Baylor's Parents of the Year for 2006, we are honoring two individuals who have demonstrated a unique and unwavering loyalty to Baylor," said Judy Maggard, director of parent programs at Baylor. "Love of family, dedication to their church and service in their local community are all defining qualities of this truly remarkable couple. We are pleased to have the opportunity to honor a couple whose zest for life is inspiring and energizing."

Bill and Eva met while attending Baylor, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. Bill earned his bachelor's degree in finance in 1975 and his master of business administration degree in 1977 from Baylor, and Eva received her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1976. Bill and Eva have not only supported the university in many ways, but have entrusted Baylor with their two children, Michelle and Preston.

In nominating them for the honor, their daughter, Michelle, noted, "Baylor is such a special part of our parents' lives. They love Baylor for bringing them together and teaching them to be who they are today. They have in turn passed on a love for Baylor to my brother and me. I couldn't have hand-picked better parents if I'd had the chance."

Bill is chairman and CEO of Scottsdale-based Medcom USA. Eva leads a Bible study for young moms, works with Scottsdale Christian Women's Club and is involved with Scottsdale Honors Cotillion. They are members of North Phoenix Baptist Church.

The Williams also give generously of their time to Baylor. Bill serves as a member of Baylor Foundation and the Hankamer School of Business Advisory Board. They both participate in the Student Life Advisory Board, Development Council and their local Parents League chapter. They also are loyal supporters of the football program, established the Bill and Eva Williams Endowed Scholarship in Entrepreneurship and made the lead gift for the Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat, which is home to Baylor's North American Black Bear mascots.
