Approximately a thousand Baylor University freshmen will take part in "First Step," a mass community service project, from 9:15 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 24.
The event is designed to involve new students in service early in their Baylor careers in hopes that they will make helping others a way of life beyond Baylor. "First Step" is sponsored by Sherwin Williams Paint Co., Keep Waco Beautiful, Reddy Ice and Community Bank and Trust.
Students will check in Saturday morning at the Ferrell Center, where they will be bused to 11 work sites located near 17th and Dutton in Waco. Jobs include house painting and yard and alley cleanup. Students will return to Baylor at 1 p.m. for lunch and a celebration of service at Fountain Mall.
Students will be serving at the following work sites:
• 1609 Baylor
• 812 S. 16th
• 1625 Cleveland
• 1505, 1521 and 1607 Connor
• 1505 and 1509 Burnet
• 1705 S. Park
• 1604 Gurley
• University Baptist Church, 17th and Dutton

On Saturday morning, the First Step media contact is Jessica Truglio, coordinator of community service at Baylor, at mobile (254) 855-2088.
