Melodrama To Be Presented July 26

July 23, 2002

Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will present The Broken Commandment or Stolen Gold in Junction City, a rousing melodrama, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26.
The play was written and produced by children who participated in the Historic Village's Summer Melodrama Camp. Leslie Collier, longtime children's theater director, will direct the play and also served as instructor at the three-week camp, which is open to children ages 10 to 14.
"Melodrama was a very popular form of entertainment in the 1890s," said Dinah Siemon, educational programming coordinator. "It is a very emotional type play with definite heroes and villains and a moral ending."
Admission to the melodrama is free. The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village is located on University Parks Drive behind the Baylor Alumni Center.
