School Of Social Work To Host Conference March 21

Baylor University's School of Social Work will hold the fifth annual Preston M. Dyer Spring Conference from 8 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Region 12 Service Center, 2101 W. Loop 340 in Waco. The conference is open to professional social workers, students, pastors and church staff and leaders of aid organizations.
The workshop will feature lectures and sessions led by social work professionals. From 8:45 to 10 a.m., Dr. Rodney Richie, president of Waco Lung Associates and medical director of Community Hospice of Waco, will speak on "When People are Grieving: A Professional Response." In the afternoon, Dr. David Sherwood, professor of social work and editor of Social Work and Christianity, will lecture on "Ethics in Social Work Practice." Breakout sessions will focus on such topics as broken relationships, children, crime and victimization, suicide and loss of safety.
The fee to attend the conference is $75 for community practitioners, $40 for social work field instructors, $35 for Baylor faculty and $15 for students. Professionals can earn up to six hours of continuing education credits by participating in the conference.
