GEAR UP Waco will hold its 3rd annual GEAR UP College Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at G.L. Wiley Middle School, 1030 Live Oak in Waco. Several local two- and four-year colleges will be in attendance, including McLennan Community College, Texas State Technical College and Baylor University.
The event is free and open to the public. Waco Independent School District students, families, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to attend. In addition to the college information, there will be live entertainment, refreshments and door prizes.
The GEAR UP College Night is designed to build college awareness in students by providing families and students with information on college admissions, financial aid and testing. The evening also allows colleges to showcase their individual programs.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, GEAR UP Waco is a comprehensive, collaborative initiative focused on preparing at-risk students academically and socially for college. GEAR UP Waco serves as a community catalyst to assure an increase in students who pursue advanced and enrichment courses, pass the state exam and continue their education beyond the high school level.
GEAR UP Waco projects and initiatives are led by seven partners, including Baylor, TSTC, MCC, Communities in Schools/McLennan County Youth Collaboration, Waco ISD, Waco Foundation and the City of Waco.
