Baylor University will host faculty, staff and students for Bear Growl beginning at 5 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 1, at Fountain Mall on Baylor's campus. This all-university event is an effort to promote fall sports, including cross country, equestrian, football, soccer and volleyball.
"Our previous Bear Growls have had great effects," said Liesl Rodenhaver, director of marketing and promotions for Baylor Athletics. "We had one in the winter for basketball and one in the spring for our spring sports, and those seasons were very successful."
ARAMARK is sponsoring the free event and will provide a meal of chopped beef sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, potato salad, Blue Bell ice cream and Dr Pepper. All campus dining locations, excluding Memorial Dining Hall, will be closed beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
There will be a fall sports rally following the dinner featuring players and coaches from each fall sport, including head football coach Guy Morriss. This will be an opportunity for Baylor fans to experience the athletic vision for the fall and experience the personal side of the athletes and coaches.
"The idea for the Bear Growl is to promote Baylor and our student athletes," Rodenhaver said, "We have a lot of great things at Baylor to be thankful for, and our athletes really appreciate campus support."
The free entertainment will include the Baylor Spirit Squads, live music by The Morticians and door prizes. The program will conclude at 7 p.m., but dinner will be served until 7:30. In the event of inclement weather, the Bear Growl event will be moved to the Ferrell Center.
