Spring Commencement To Be Held May 14

Baylor University spring graduates will take part in several commencement events Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14. Baylor will confer degrees on approximately 1,800 graduates during spring commencement exercises Saturday in the Ferrell Center.
The spring ceremonies are held at 9:30 a.m. for the College of Arts and Sciences and related graduate programs, and 2:30 p.m. for the Schools of Business, Engineering and Computer Science, Education, Music, Nursing, Seminary and related graduate programs. Doors will open approximately 90 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony and tickets are not necessary.
President and Mrs. Robert B. Sloan Jr. will host a reception for graduates, faculty, parents and relatives from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center. Dr Pepper floats will be served. No reservations are necessary.
Other Friday events include the baccalaureate service and reception for graduates of George W. Truett Theological Seminary, their families and guests at 6 p.m. in the seminary's Paul W. Powell Chapel. The reception will immediately follow in the Paul and Katy Piper Great Hall.
Doctoral students, their spouses, chairs of their departments and mentors are invited to a dinner hosted by the Graduate School at 7 p.m. Friday in Barfield Drawing Room. Reservations are required. For more information, contact the Graduate School office at 710-3588.
A casual gathering for graduates and their families will be held at 9 p.m. Friday on the first floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center. Ice cream and toppings will be served at no cost and no reservations are required.
President Sloan will preside over both commencement ceremonies. Greetings will be brought in both ceremonies by Will Davis, chairman of the board of regents. The bearer of the mace at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony will be Mary L. Adams, retired assistant professor of German. During the 2:30 p.m. ceremony, the bearer of the mace will be Joyce C. Dean, retired associate professor of accounting.
Following each ceremony, the Baylor Alumni Association invites all new graduates and their families to join them under a graduation tent for a reception. The tent, located just outside the Ferrell Center on the University Parks Drive side, provides a place to meet with family members, take photographs and enjoy refreshments.
During the reception, the Baylor Alumni Association will offer a new graduate special of $25 for a one-year membership (one half of the regular membership price) or a life membership for $800 (discounted from the regular $1000 life membership). Those who join also receive a free Baylor alumni license plate holder. New graduates may also join online at BaylorAlumni.com.
