Area Teachers To Participate In 'Art In The Garden' March 22

More than 50 area teachers, art students and Baylor University education majors will take part in "Art in the Garden," a workshop on printmaking for K-12 teachers, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Lake Waco Montesorri School, 3005 Edna, in Waco. The activity will allow participants to draw nature and botanical scenes in the school's garden and then, under the direction of printmaker Majorie Crisp, make prints from their drawings.
Teachers from the Waco, China Spring, Midway and Clifton school districts will participate in the community outreach program that is sponsored by Baylor's art education program in the department of art.
"Our goal is to help the teachers and students who attend this workshop to develop their own skills and to feel competent and motivated to share these skills later with their students," said Dr. Sandra McCollister, assistant professor of art at Baylor. "Also, this is a wonderful interdisciplinary activity that combines the science of studying nature with art."
Crisp is a widely-exhibited artist who is known for her prints of botanical studies, animals and scenes from the Texas landscape. She also designed two WACOWS that recently were auctioned by the Waco Art Center. She lives in Elgin, Texas, and conducts printmaking workshops throughout Central Texas.
