Baylor To Break Ground Friday On Habitat House Project
Baylor faculty, staff and students will join with Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. and representatives from Waco Habitat for Humanity at 4 p.m. Friday, March 16, to participate in a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Baylor Habitat for Humanity House located at 1008 Church Ave. in Waco.
The $32,000 project of Baylor's Habitat for Humanity chapter -- the oldest collegiate chapter in the United States -- is being funded by contributions from students, faculty and staff. Construction on the home, the 61st Habitat House to be built in Waco, will begin Saturday, March 24, with a completion date and house dedication set for Saturday, April 28.
Participants in Friday's groundbreaking will include Sloan; Ahmed Al-Hafidh, student president of the Baylor Habitat chapter; John Alexander, executive director of Waco Habitat for Humanity; Howard Williams, Baylor director of church relations and president of the Waco Habitat board of directors; Jay Losey, chair of the Faculty Senate; Rona Stefka, chair of special projects for Staff Council; and the homeowners, Eddie and Anja Gayle.
