Woodwind Faculty In Recital March 15

The Baylor Woodwind Quintet, a chamber ensemble featuring members of the School of Music woodwind faculty, will present a concert at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. Two of the four works on the program will be heard in their premiere performances.
The quintet is comprised of associate professor of flute Helen Ann Shanley, professor of clarinet Richard Shanley, professor of oboe Doris DeLoach, assistant professor of bassoon Kenton Moore and assistant professor of horn Jeffrey Powers.
The concert will open with the Quintet in B-flat major, Op. 56, No. 1, of 18th-century German composer Franz Danzi.
Baylor graduate Charles Rochester Young's Three Summer Evenings will follow. Its movements are titled "Fireworks," "Ballad for an August Moon" and "Carnival."
Next will be the Woodwind Quintet ("Ars Antiqua") of Paul Richards, a two-movement work whose sections are marked "Calliope" and "Dirge and Fugue." Richards taught composition at Baylor in 1998 and 1999.
Concluding the program will be Three Shanties, a work dating from 1944 by English composer Malcolm Arnold.
