Village Program To Focus On Sheep Raising March 17

Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will host "From Fleece to Fabric" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17. Visitors to the village can watch sheep shearing demonstrations, help clean and process the fleece, card wool, learn how to spin and weave a bookmark. Throughout the day, there will be demonstrations of wool dying and weaving.
The village will use its own sheep flock for the shearing demonstrations. The village currently has two Suffolk sheep and five Jacobs sheep, an ancient breed known for its fleece.
"Although more farmers in this area raised hogs, sheep still played an important role in Central Texas rural life in the 1800s," said Dinah Siemon, education coordinator for the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village.
Admission to "From Fleece to Fabric" is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children ages 5 to 15. Baylor students, faculty, staff and children under age 5 are admitted at no charge.
