Sept. 27, 2000

Baylor University will host its annual Parents Weekend Sept. 29-30. Parents will have opportunities to learn about Baylor by touring the campus, meeting faculty and attending events planned by the Baylor Chamber of Commerce.

Registration for the event will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday on the front steps of the Bill Daniel Student Center (BDSC). Parents will be able to pick up information regarding the weekend's events and also purchase Parents Weekend shirts.

An open Bear Pit will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. where families can meet the Baylor bear mascots, Judge Bill Boyd and Judge Herbert H. "Chance" Reynolds.

At 4 p.m. on the second floor of the BDSC, parents are invited to attend Baylor in Focus. Baylor professors will discuss what a typical Baylor course is like.

After Baylor in Focus, the history of the oldest continuously operating institution of higher learning in Texas will be told by Robert Reid, professor emeritus and master teacher of history. The event will be held at 5 p.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room on the second floor of the BDSC.

After Dark, Baylor's annual variety show, will feature student performers, including vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers at 7 and 10 p.m. in Waco Hall. At 9 p.m. in the Burleson Quadrangle, there will be a dessert party with the Ed Burleson Band providing entertainment.

On Saturday, a parent-faculty coffee will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Founders Mall. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their student's professors and other Baylor administrators.

Dinner on the Grounds, a meal with the entire "Baylor Family," will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. During dinner, Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will give the keynote address. "Chance," the bear mascot, also will make an appearance at the dinner.
