Baylor University's Public Relations Student Society of America and the Society of Professional Journalists will present a program on crisis communications at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the room 245 of Castellaw Communications Center on the Baylor campus. The program is free and open to the public.
Cynthia Lawson, executive director of university relations at Texas A&M University, is the guest speaker. During her first year at the 43,000-student university, Lawson handled the crisis communications on national and international levels after one of the worst tragedies ever on a college campus -- the Nov. 18 collapse of the university's bonfire during construction, resulting in 12 deaths and injuries to 27 students.
Lawson has more than 20 years of experience in higher education and corporate public relations, communications and image-building. She has worked at Eastern Michigan University, the Culver Military Academy, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and The Detroit Edison Company.
