The Shadow Box Opens At Baylor Theatre Feb. 16

Baylor Theatre's production of the Tony Award-winning play, "The Shadow Box," opens tomorrow in the Mabee Theater at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16-18 and Feb. 20-24 with a matinee performance scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25.
Winner of the 1977 Tony Award for Best Play and the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for Dramatic Literature, Michael Cristofer's play dramatizes the final days of three terminal cancer patients who live in separate cottages on a hospital's grounds. The three are attended and visited by family and close friends, who share the fears and anxieties of their final days.
Additionally, the lobby outside the theater will be adorned with photographs and personal accounts dealing with serious illness and the possibility of death that were sent in by Central Texas residents.
"Our production will be dedicated to people who have survived cancer, as well as to those who have lost their battle with a terminal disease," said Dr. Stan Denman, acting chair of the department of theater arts and director of the production. "We want to drive home to our audiences the fact that cancer and other serious illnesses can happen to anyone -- and almost everyone have been affected by cancer in some way."
"The Shadow Box" features Lance Currie as Joe, Rachel Hollon as Maggie, Erik Archilla as Steve, Greg MacPherson as Brian and Jason Hindelang as Mark. Also appearing in the production will be Megan Conner as Beverly, Fran Lumbard as Felicity, Jennifer Collins and Agnes and Julie Kendig as the Interviewer.
