Bear Downs Set For April 6 At Baylor

March 30, 2000

Bear Downs, an annual bicycle race on the Baylor University campus, will celebrate its 29th anniversary at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, on Fifth Street in front of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
The theme of this year's race is "Tradition." Baylor faculty and staff will have the first ever Tandem Bicycle Race around the Fountain Mall which will start a new Bear Downs tradition. Also a drawing will be held and the winner will be awarded a free bike, courtesy of Bicycles Outback.
The race, designed and sponsored by Student Foundation, is an annual competition open to Baylor students, faculty and staff. This year, 25 teams, with four cyclists each, are signed up for the race. The 30-mile course runs through the heart of campus, starting and finishing on Fifth Street.
A cyclist from each team must complete a minimum of seven laps; however, the laps do not have to be consecutive. There is a men's and women's division. The first four teams from each division to finish will receive cash prizes. The winning team receives $500, with the next three teams receiving $350, $200 and $150, respectively.
Competition will not be limited to the race, however, as the club, fraternity, sorority or group with the most spectators present will receive a group party courtesy of Big Daddy's restaurant.
