Ollie Mae Moen Discovery Center To Host Family Fun Day Feb. 12

The Ollie Mae Moen Discovery Center of Baylor University will host a family fun day, Creatures and Cultures, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at 815 Columbus Ave. The Discovery Center is the children's facility of the Strecker Museum Complex of Baylor.
Several special events will take place including a display of the Waco Model Train Association's model train in the Transportation Room. The Boy Scouts of American will be in full Native American dress in the Native American Room, and Beulah Barksdale, master storyteller, will share African folk tales along with her doll collection at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the People of the World Room. Jean Behringer's antique button collection will be on display in the Pioneer Room.
The storybook character, Madeline, will make an appearance between noon and 1:30 p.m.; while Barnes and Noble Bookstore personnel read Madeline stories. Rick Strot and his puppets will be perform at 10:30 a.m. and noon.
The City of Waco will present information on recycling and composting. All rooms of the Discovery Center will be open and visitors can blow bubbles, make valentines, pet the animals, observe the bees and browse the Ready to Learn Room.
The entire museum is open to the public at no charge but donations are welcomed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
