Dr. James Vardaman to Discuss Dilemmas in Northern Ireland Nov. 4

November 2, 1999

Dr. James Vardaman, Jo Murphy Chair in International Education and professor of history at Baylor University, will speak on the "Dilemma of Northern Ireland" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Cowden Room on the third floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Vardaman will discuss the current political struggle between Northern Ireland's Protestants and Catholics and the country's future system of government.
"One hopes civilized and Christian activity will prevail. I would like to see the six counties in Northern Ireland return to their own governmental system and also for Britain to withdraw and let Ireland be in charge of themselves," Dr. Vardaman said.
