Baylor School of Music Celebrates Bella Voce Women’s Chamber Choir with Alumni Weekend Concert

WACO, Texas (Sept. 23, 2022) – Belle Voce, the celebrated women’s chamber choir in the Baylor University School of Music, will present Bella Voce Alumni Weekend Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The concert celebrates more than 10 years of music under the direction of Belle Voce founder Lynne Gackle, Ph.D., director of choral activities, professor of ensembles and The Mary Gibbs Jones Chair in Music. This event is free and open to the public.
More than 100 Bella Voce singers and alumni will be perform as part of the highly selective women’s ensemble, which is comprised primarily of undergraduate and graduate music majors but also is open to non-music majors.
In addition to conducting Belle Voce, Gackle teaches choral conducting and choral literature and serves as director of the ensemble division in the Baylor School of Music. She is an active conductor and clinician, including conducting All-State choirs all over the country. She has held numerous national leadership positions, including past president of the American Choral Directors Association.
Gackle is editor of Choral Artistry for the Singer (Walton Music/GIA) and the Lynne Gackle Choral Series (Colla Voce). Recognized for her research on the female adolescent voice, Gackle is the author of Finding Ophelia’s Voice, Opening Ophelia’s Heart and is a contributing author for other books published by GIA, Oxford and Hal Leonard/McGraw Hill. She was awarded Baylor's Outstanding Faculty Award in Research in 2012.
Bella Voce performs a wide and interesting variety of choral selections reflecting various style periods and genres from the vast repertoire written specifically for women’s voices. One of the premier touring ensembles in the School of Music, the ensemble also performs on campus at the Family Weekend Concert, Fall and Spring Concerts, “A Baylor Christmas” and Armstrong Browning Library Christmas Concerts.
