Baylor University Announces Fall Enrollment

WACO, Texas (Sept. 14, 2022) – Baylor University announced its official fall enrollment today, including an overall enrollment that topped 20,000.

According to official 12th class day statistics from Baylor’s Office of Institutional Research and Testing, Baylor enrolled 20,709 students this fall. The University’s overall student body reflects 38.3% underrepresented minority enrollment with students from out-of-state at nearly 43%.

An intentionally smaller fall 2022 freshman class of 3,296 students maintained its high academic quality with SAT and ACT test scores and the percentage of high-ability students all up year over year. The decision to bring in a smaller class was due to two large “COVID classes” that enrolled in fall 2021 (4,271 freshmen) and fall 2020 (3,731 freshmen). The diversity among the 2022 freshman class includes underrepresented minority enrollment at 35.4% and out-of-state enrollment at nearly 46%.

Baylor also received a record number of applications during the fall 2022 admissions cycle at nearly 51,000, up 13% year over year. The University also accepted 10% less of applicants, a sign of Baylor’s growing selectivity.

Undergraduate enrollment was reported at 15,213 students, although Baylor’s strategic enrollment management plan is focused on reducing that number below 15,000. With the record fall 2021 class completing its freshman year, the one-year freshman retention rate from fall 2021 to fall 2022 rose two points to 90.2%.

Enrollment in Baylor’s expanding graduate and professional programs, including online programs, increased to 5,496 students.
