Baylor University honored eight staff members with the 2005 Outstanding Staff Awards, which were presented during Baylor's annual service award ceremony on Feb. 16, in the Barfield Drawing Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center.
This year's honorees were Donna Doak, University Development; Elaine Harknett, Honors Program; Patrick Hynan, Engineering and Computer Science; Ray Lantz, DPS; Anthony Lapes, Electronic Library Client Services; Timothy Logan, Electronic Library; Jenny Shankle, Human Resource Services; and Susan Smith, Hankamer School of Business.
Baylor has presented awards since 1987, based on exceptional service, dependability, accomplishments and professional qualities. The recipients are nominated by their peers and recommended by a selection committee. Outstanding staff are honored in four categories: executive, administrative and management; professional (degree required); office/clerical; and technical, paraprofessional, skilled crafts and service maintenance.
Each outstanding staff member received a certificate signed by Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr., a monetary award and recognition in the Baylor Homecoming parade. Outstanding Staff Awards were presented by Dr. Sloan and Trish Baum, chair of Baylor's staff council.
Lana Conder with the College of Arts and Sciences was honored with the BAYLORplus "Salute of the Year" for her exemplary quality service. With the motto "Quality People Adding Quality Service," the BAYLORplus program honors those who go above and beyond the call of duty, and encourages people to seek out opportunities to provide quality service. Nominations or "Salutes" for exceptional service come anonymously from co-workers, faculty and students. The BAYLORplus Award was presented by Ashley Thornton, assistant vice president and director for professional and organizational development.
University faculty and staff also were recognized for their service to Baylor through the presentation of pins indicating five-year multiples of service. More than 290 employees received pins this year, for service ranging from five to 35 years. Baylor faculty and staff earning their 35-year pins were Tommye Lou Davis; Howard Dudgeon III; Chris Hansen; Tom Kelly; Jerry Melvin Milner; Rachel Hunter Moore; M. Ann Reed; Helen Ann Shanley; Richard A. Shanley; and Eugene Tidmore. Pins were presented by Dr. Sloan and Marilyn A. Crone, vice president for human resources and enrollment management.
The ceremony was coordinated by compensation and benefits, including assistance from personnel services, payroll, public relations, university host, Bill Daniel Student Center, the division of human resources and organizational development.
