Baylor String Quartet Plays On Feb. 26

The Baylor String Quartet, comprised of four members of the Baylor University School of Music faculty, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Treasure Room of Armstrong Browning Library. Performers will include violinists Bruce Berg and Eka Gogichashvili, violist Kathryn Steely and cellist Gary Hardie.
The Baylor String Quartet will open the program with the famous Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3, by the great Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn. The work is known as the "Emperor" Quartet because its slow movement is a set of variations on the familiar tune Haydn wrote for the "Emperor's Hymn."
The quartet will follow with Italian Serenade, a chamber work by Austrian song composer Hugo Wolf, and will conclude the program with Quartet No. 1, Op. 7, the first of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók's six innovative string quartets.
