Baylor University President Robert B. Sloan Jr. today released a statement following the announcement of the death of Waco Mayor Mae Jackson:

"The Baylor University family and I are deeply saddened at the passing of Waco Mayor Mae Jackson, and we are praying for her family, her church and her closest friends. The loss of Mae Jackson is indeed a loss for the city of Waco. Mae had a wonderfully inclusive and unifying spirit that came across every time you met her. Her greatest legacy will be her commitment to community building and to seek all kinds of people coming together to work for the common good."
