Truett Seminary Names Associate Professor of Christian Ministry

June 1, 1998

Dr. Terry W. York, associate pastor at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, has been named associate professor of Christian ministry at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Dean Brad Creed announced today.

York, who will join the Truett faculty in July, will teach courses in Christian ministry, worship and leadership in administration. He will also provide leadership and direction to new curriculum programs and projects at Truett.

"Terry York is a gifted artist, a proven administrator and leader, and an experienced minister," Creed said. "His panoramic experience in ministry and his commitment to shaping a new generation of leaders committed to the local church makes his appointment to Truett Seminary both timely and welcome."

York's career is as varied as it is notable. He was project coordinator for the 1991 Baptist Hymnal and has published many hymns himself. He served as an editorial adviser on both the "Songs of Praise and Worship" bilingual hymnal and the new Chinese Baptist Hymnal to be released this year. He is currently on the board of directors for Logos Christian Cultural Center in Moscow, Russia.

York is no stranger to Baylor. His son, Matthew, is a junior, and his daughter, Melody, will be a freshman this fall. York also delivered the School of Music Northcutt Lecture in April 1996.

York, a native of Atchison, Kan., received a bachelor's degree in music from California Baptist College in 1973. He then attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he completed his master's degree in hymnology in 1975 and a doctorate in church music in 1985.

York is married to the former Janna Longshore of Fresno, Calif.
