Lecture Series To Focus On Fashion And Apparel Industry

A noted expert on the fashion and apparel industry will be the featured speaker at Baylor University's Vice Provost for Research Spring Colloquium Series Thursday and Friday, Feb. 10-11.
Dr. Kitty Dickerson, chair of the department of textile and apparel management at the University of Missouri at Columbia, will speak on "Globalization of the Textile and Apparel Industries" and "Under the Microscope: Serving on a Corporate Board" at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday in room 126 at the Sid Richardson Science Building. On Friday at 9 and 10 a.m. in room 301 at the Cashion Academic Building, she will discuss "Textile Trade Policy: Emergence of a New Era."
Since the late 1970s, Dickerson has met with industry leaders, policymakers and other scholars at both the national and international levels to gain insight into the complex issues associated with international trade, particularly related to the textile and apparel industries. She also is the first and only woman to serve on the board of directors of the Kellwood Co., a multinational Fortune 500 company, whose brands include Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Nautica and which will have sales of more than $2.4 billion for this fiscal year.
Dickerson is the author of Textiles and Apparel in the Global Economy and Inside the Fashion Business and has published more than 75 articles in scholarly and trade journals. She also has been interviewed by such media outlets as Women's Wear Daily, the New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times. Additionally, she was a participant at the World Economic Forum Industry Summit at Stanford University.
