WACO, Texas (June 16, 2021) – From recent ransomware attacks to the COVID-19 pandemic, complex supply chains have faced major disruptions while today’s business leaders stay one step ahead of maintaining a sustainable supply chain ecosystem.

To help supply chain managers effectively navigate these risks and disruptions while keeping the end-to-end supply chain running smoothly, Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business has added a new concentration in Global Trade and Supply Chain Management beginning this fall in its nationally ranked Baylor Online MBA and Baylor Executive MBA programs in Dallas and Austin.

Taught by Baylor business faculty, students in the online MBA and EMBA programs will focus on:

  • Evaluating the end-to-end components of a supply chain, from procurement of materials to the delivery of a final product to the customer.
  • Effectively managing risk and disruptions while maintaining a sustainable supply chain ecosystem, using a triple-bottom-line framework approach.
  • Understanding the complexities of both import and export regulatory requirements and how they impact the global business function.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities within the supply chain or global trade functions using performance metrics such as KPIs, a balance scorecard, etc.

“The importance of effectively managing supply chains has never been more important as it is in today’s globally connected business environment. This was illustrated over the past year as health care supply chain experts faced significant pressure to source and distribute essential medical supplies for COVID-19 and more recently in the widespread distribution of vaccines,” said Tim Kayworth, Ph.D., professor of information systems and associate dean for graduate business programs.

“The new concentration in Global Trade and Supply Chain Management will prepare students to deal with the logistical, legal and geo-political complexities of managing globally connected supply chains to ensure the efficient flow of goods and services among globally dispersed business partners,” he said.

With this concentration, Baylor Online MBA students will learn how to analyze the management of global trade compliance and develop efficient supply chain processes to improve a company’s bottom line. Students will take courses that build knowledge around understanding operating processes and how to measure and analyze those processes, as well as strategy for decision-making revolving around demand planning, global sourcing and distribution channel management.

In addition to building a business leader’s skills in leadership, critical thinking and entrepreneurial approaches with global travel, Baylor EMBA students in Dallas and Baylor EMBA students in Austin with a concentration on International Trade and Supply Chain Management will combine skills and data analytics to identify improvement opportunities and evaluate end-to-end components of a supply chain.

The Baylor OMBA and EMBA programs both offer strategic concentrations in cybersecurity, executive communication and marketing while the EMBA programs also provide a health care administration concentration.
