Women’s World Day of Prayer Brunch to be Hosted at Baylor on Dec. 4

WACO, Texas (Nov. 20, 2019) – A Women’s World Day of Prayer Brunch, “Arise, Shine through Service,” will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Piper Great Hall of George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University. Featured speaker and guest of honor will be Earl Ann Lenert Bumpus, former assistant director of Baptist Student Union (now Baptist Student Ministries) at Baylor and newly elected president of Texas Woman’s Missionary Union.

The event is sponsored by WMU/Women’s Ministries of Waco Regional Baptist Association and co-sponsored by Truett Seminary; the Keston Center for Religion, Politics and Society; Baylor Baptist Student Ministries; and First Woodway Baptist Church.

A Bible study and devotional will be led by Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D., chair and professor of the department of journalism, public relations and new media at Baylor. Martha Lou Scott, Ed.D., who retired from her role as associate vice president for student life at Baylor after nearly 49 years of service to the University, will lead the prayer experience. Mariana and Eli Gutierrez will provide worship music, and leadership from Baptist Student Ministries will offer a Scripture focus.

The event will begin with a light complimentary brunch at 10 a.m., followed by a program and prayer at 10:30 a.m. Reservations are preferred. To make a reservation, contact Kathy Hillman at Kathy_Hillman@baylor.edu or 254-749-5347.

Truett Seminary is located at 1100 S. Third St. on the Baylor campus. Guest parking will be available in Dutton Avenue Parking Garage at 1100 S. University Parks Drive in visitor or non-reserved/untimed student spaces. The Dutton Avenue Garage is adjacent to Truett Seminary.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Earl Ann Lenert Bumpus became president of Texas Woman’s Missionary Union on April 5. She grew up in Florida and earned a B.S. in education from Samford University and an M.R.E. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. While in Texas, Earl Ann served as assistant director of Baylor’s BSU (now BSM) and met and married Baylor graduate Mark Bumpus. They have ministered throughout the state, including pastorates at Pearl Baptist Church and First Baptist Churches in Troy, Mineral Wells, San Angelo and currently Graham. They have two children, UMHB graduate Katy and Baylor graduate Marshall, and two granddaughters.

Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D., chairs the department of journalism, public relations and new media at Baylor. She edits the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas Women’s Ministry Magazine in addition to her involvement at Waco’s Antioch Baptist Church. Originally from Bryan, she holds a B.A. from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in journalism and educational psychology from Baylor and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas in Austin. Mia is married to Augustine Ramirez and is the proud mother of Heidi, Timothy and William.
