Baylor Extends President Livingstone Contract Through 2024
WACO, Texas (Oct. 7, 2019) – Baylor University has completed a contract extension with President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., Board of Regents Chair Jerry K. Clements announced Monday.
Dr. Livingstone began serving as Baylor’s 15th president on June 1, 2017, under a three-year contract. Her newly amended five-year contract will run through May 31, 2024, with the option for two automatic one-year extensions. The contract extension for Dr. Livingstone follows last week’s announcements of new contract terms for Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mack B. Rhoades IV and head football coach Matt Rhule.
“These long-term contract extensions reflect the tremendous positive momentum Baylor has experienced over the past two-plus years under our current University leadership,” Clements said. “Dr. Livingstone is an exemplar of Baylor’s Christian mission. Stability in leadership is critically important as we aspire for success as a top-tier university in academics, research and athletics and to reach the $1.1 billion goal of our Give Light philanthropic campaign.
“Dr. Livingstone has energized our faculty, staff, students and alumni with an aspirational vision, as Baylor strives to become a Research 1/Tier 1 university under her Illuminate strategic plan,” Clements added. “With Dr. Livingstone’s steady hand, Baylor has proved to be strong and resilient with a bright future ahead.”
Said Dr. Livingstone: “I would like to thank the Board of Regents for the trust they have placed in me to uphold Baylor’s historic traditions and distinct place in higher education as we elevate our status as the preeminent Christian research university. Working alongside our faculty and staff, we have made significant progress toward recognition as an R1/Tier 1 institution and in raising significant financial support for our Christian mission to educate students for worldwide leadership and service. Our aspirations are indeed great, and Brad, Shelby and I are honored to be a part of the Baylor Family during such a historic time for the University.”
Dr. Livingstone’s contract includes various performance incentives in addition to base salary. As a private institution, Baylor does not disclose specific contract terms.
