Baylor University's Air Force ROTC detachment will hold a flag vigil on Thursday, Nov. 11, at the flag pole in front of Pat Neff Hall. Beginning at 6 a.m., teams of two cadets will guard the flag in hour-long shifts. The vigil will end at 6 a.m. Friday. The annual event is held in conjunction with Veterans Day.
"We honor the many men and women, past and present, by standing vigil over our nation's flag, which they proudly defended and the freedom that our nation's flag represents," said Lt. Col. David Riel, commander of Baylor's AFROTC.
In addition to the flag vigil, cadets will hand out 500 magnetic ribbons commemorating Baylor's veterans and will co-sponsor with Alpha Tau Omega a Veterans Day memorial service from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday in front of Pat Neff Hall.
Formed in 1948, one year after the creation of the Air Force as a separate military branch, Baylor's program is one of the nation's oldest Air Force ROTC units. Currently, 143 students participate in the program.
