I-35 Update: 11th/12th Streets Bridge Removal Begins Tonight

WACO, Texas (July 17, 2019) – Demolition of the 11th/12th Street bridge is expected to begin at 7 p.m. tonight, July 17, 2019, as crews remove the bridge deck, beginning over the southbound frontage road and moving east as the work is completed.

Tonight through 6 a.m. Thursday, through traffic headed southbound on the frontage road will be directed onto the mainlanes at University Parks Drive and will be able to exit at 17th – 18th Street (Exit 334). Local traffic will be allowed to stay on the frontage road up to 10th Street where they will then be directed onto 10th Street from the frontage road.

This process may take more than one night in each location. Once the bridge deck is removed, crews will begin removing the beams, starting at the northbound frontage road and moving west as sections are cleared.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes during this time, as additional lane restrictions will be in place between 4th/5th Streets and 17th/18th Streets along the frontage road and the mainlanes, depending on the work location. Please slow down and follow all signage through the work zones.

Work is anticipated to continue in this area for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Additional information on upcoming closures related to the bridge removal will be shared as work progresses.
