Noted Hymn Composer At Baylor Oct. 12

Kathleen Thomerson, composer of the well-known hymn "I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light" will present a program at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Paul Powell Chapel of George W. Truett Theological Seminary on the Baylor University campus. The program, sponsored by the Central Texas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), is free and open to the public.
Thomerson's program will be on her study with composers Flor Peeters and Jean Langlais. She also will speak about her hymn "I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light," as well as her recent hymn tunes.
Thomerson received a Master of Music degree with Performance Award Diploma from the University of Texas at Austin and holds the certificates of Fellow and Choirmaster from the American Guild of Organists. She studied for one year at the Royal Flemish Conservatory with Peeters, and privately in Paris with Langlais. She will bring music scores and recordings by both Peeters and Langlais.
Thomerson formerly taught at Southern Illinois University and is presently the director of music ministries and organist of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Austin. She also is education director of the Austin Chapter of the AGO.
