Heavenly Voices Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Gospel Fest

February 9, 1998

Baylor University's Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir will host the 10th Annual Gospel Fest on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Waco Hall on the Baylor campus. This year's concert is a special celebration of the choir's 10-year anniversary founding. The theme of the celebration comes from 1 John 4:8, "Real Love."
"In lieu of Valentine's Day we wanted a theme that would encompass God's eternal love for us," said Astria Smith, president of Heavenly Voices.
The day-long event will involve six collegiate choirs from across Texas. Workshops for choir members, led by local ministers, will begin at 8 a.m. The choirs will join together for an afternoon rehearsal session where they will learn two songs to be performed by the mass choir at the evening concert.
Each collegiate choir will perform two songs, and an alumni choir of past Heavenly Voices members will also perform. The last two numbers will be performed by all of the choirs combined.
"This event really gives everyone a chance to praise God and raise His name together," Smith said. "We want to celebrate His love for us on Valentine's Day."
Tickets for the evening concert may be purchased for $5 at the ticket office in the Bill Daniel Student Center and at the Waco Hall box office. For more information, call Baylor Student Activities at 710-2371.
