Sociology Students to Present Findings From Research Projects

WACO, Texas (Nov. 27, 2018) – Undergraduate students in a sociology research methods class will present findings from their quantitative and qualitative research projects during a poster session and reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Cox Reception Hall in Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave.

Among the research topics:
-Views on work among Millennial and Post-Millennial generations.
-Age differences in attitudes toward tattoos and piercings
-Instagram use and perceived body image among female college students
-The effect of parental divorce on parent-child relationship quality among young adults
-Race and socioeconomic differences in attitudes toward the Black Lives Matter movement
-Close friends and their effect on mental health

Students conducted research as part of the SOC 4381 Research Methods class taught by Lindsay Wilkinson, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology in the department of sociology of Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences.

Wilkinson’s research and teaching interests include medical sociology, social stratification and health, aging and the life course and quantitative methods. She is focusing on an examination of financial strain and health among older adults during the Great Recession, including the role of resilience, and trajectories of health problems and poverty among young and middle-aged women over three decades.

The reception is sponsored by the department of sociology. Dr Pepper floats will be served.
