Arnold Air Society to Sponsor Pow/mia Flag Vigil Nov. 11

November 6, 1997

The Arnold Air Society, a service organization of the Baylor University ROTC, will sponsor a 24-hour flag vigil in honor of military prisoners of war (POWs) and those missing in action (MIAs) beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the flag pole in front of Pat Neff Hall.
The vigil will occur in conjunction with Veteran's Day which honors all military personnel who have served in wars. During the vigil, four ROTC cadets will guard the flag in rotating shifts for the 24-hour period. At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, the entire flag corps will assemble for the retreating of the flag.
Brandi Rickard, public affairs officer for Arnold Air Society, said the vigil serves as inspiration for the cadets as well as honors POWs/MIAs.
"We commemorate the fact that there are people who are willing to give up their lives for our freedoms," Rickard said. "It is significant to us because we could be called on to do the same thing."
The United States military has declared more than 22,000 military personnel as a POW or MIA.
