WACO, Texas (April 20, 2018) — The senior class selected Rebecca McCumbers Flavin, Ph.D., senior lecturer of political science at Baylor University, as this year’s Collins Outstanding Professor Award recipient.

The award is provided by the Carr P. Collins Foundation to recognize and honor outstanding teachers at Baylor. Faculty who have taught full time for four years are eligible for nomination. Students nominate and vote on professors based on how they have been impacted through teaching, mentoring and advising.

Flavin will deliver a special lecture on “My Most Influential Teachers” from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday April 24, in Marrs McLean Sciences Building, Room 101. Her primary inspiration for the talk is Pope Frances’ most recent apostolic exhortation, Gaudete et Exsultate, where he encourages listeners to learn about holiness from the “saints next door.”

“In my talk I’ll be reflecting on my own saints next door, so to speak, honoring those who have shaped me in my vocation: my family, my teachers/professors and my students,” Flavin said.

The lecture will be published and made available to the University community. For more information on this lecture, click here.
