WACO, Texas (Feb. 16, 2018) — This week at Baylor University, the campus and local community will have several opportunities to experience lectures, concerts and productions, including the Black Heritage Banquet featuring actress Kiami Davael.

SUNDAY, Feb. 18
Concert Band — The Baylor University Concert Band will present its annual winter program at 3 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This 74-member ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion players is led by Steve Dailey, assistant director of bands in the School of Music. TUESDAY, Feb. 20
Mayborn Museum: Hidden Heroes-Engineering A Better World One Design At A Time — Mayborn Museum Complex will present a film and panel discussion about how engineers bring ideas to life and create solutions for the problems encountered. At 2 p.m., visitors are invited to enjoy the film Dream Big: Engineering Our World, in the SBC Theater of the Mayborn Museum Complex. From 3 to 4 p.m., Rick Tullis, president of Capstone Mechanical, will lead engineers in a panel discussion highlighting engineering contributions from the early history of Waco to the recent additions in the city. The film and panel discussion are included in the price of admission, which is $8 for adults, $6 for children (2 to 12 years old) and $7 for seniors (65+). Spring Preaching Convocation & Workshop — Bryan Chapell, Ph.D., President Emeritus and adjunct professor of practical theology at Covenant Theological Seminary, will present this year’s Spring Preaching Convocation and workshop. The Spring Preaching Convocation and Workshop is presented by the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching at Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary. The event is dedicated to expanding the preaching skills of pastors by featuring some of the leading voices in homiletical theory and practice. Jazz Ensemble — The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert with internationally acclaimed saxophonist/composer Chris Potter at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The Jazz Ensemble is a talented group of 19 student musicians who perform under the leadership of Alex Parker, senior lecturer in jazz studies and director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program at Baylor University. WEDNESDAY, Feb. 21
ISR: Reimagining Global Christian History: Fresh Insights — As Christianity has spread around the world in recent decades, scholars are asking new questions about the global dimensions of Christian history. This symposium on “Reimagining Global Christian History: Fresh Insights” will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Armstrong Browning Library and present enriching examples of this emerging global history, with a special focus on the medieval and early modern worlds.

EHS Seminar — Madison Baxter from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. in Baylor Sciences Building (BSB) Room A.108, 101 Bagby Ave. For more information, visit the Environmental Science website.

THURSDAY, Feb. 22
Nothing But Love in God's Water featuring Professor Bob Darden — Author and Baylor professor of journalism Bob Darden will speak about his recently published two-volume work on the history of black gospel music, “Nothing But Love in God's Water,” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in The Guy B. Harrison Reading Room of The Texas Collection in Carroll Library. A reception and book signing will follow the event.

Black Heritage Banquet —The Association of Black Students, in conjunction with the Department of Multicultural Affairs, will present the 31st annual Black Heritage Banquet at 7 p.m. on the Fifth Floor of Cashion. Kiami Davael, actress, model, singer, songwriter and screenwriter, is the featured speaker. She is best known for her role as "Lavender" in "Matilda," starring Mara Wilson. Tickets can be purchased at the Bill Daniel Student Center Ticket Office. General admission is $20 and Baylor student admission is $10. Baylor University Women’s Choir Festival — The 60-voice Baylor University Women’s Choir and young women singers from 11 area high schools and the Youth Chorus of Central Texas will join talents as part of the 2018 Women’s Choir Festival Concert at 4:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The conductor of the Baylor University Women’s Choir is Stephen Gusukuma, D.M.A., lecturer in choral music. The festival is directed by Brian A. Schmidt, D.M.A., associate professor of choral music, and organized by Michele Henry, Ph.D., professor of choral music education. Lyceum Series Presents the Kenari Quartet — Four award-winning saxophonists, the Kenari Quartet, will present a guest recital as part of Baylor University’s Lyceum Series at 7:30 p.m. in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. They will present music from all periods of classical music, as well as jazz, soul and other genres. Confessions of an Entrepreneur Lunch Speaker Series — Brent Bankston, owner of Bankston’s Sport Memorabilia, Comics & Collectibles, will speak at 12:30 p.m. in Foster 143 and 144 of the Hankamer School of Business, 1621 S. New Venture Competition — Baylor University's entrepreneurship program will host the seventh annual Baylor New Venture Competition Feb. 23-24, a two-day business plan and elevator pitch competition promoting student entrepreneurship by showcasing student-created, managed and owned ventures. Competitors from accredited universities across the globe receive expert feedback, coaching and a prize package of cash and crucial in-kind business support services to launch and grow their ventures.
