WACO, Texas (Jan 12, 2018) – This week, Baylor University celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a variety of events, service opportunities and celebrations.

SATURDAY, Jan. 13
Mayborn Museum Exhibit − Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum will open its exhibit “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™: Secrets of the Sewer” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mayborn Museum is located at 1300 S. MONDAY, Jan. 15
Martin Luther King Jr. Day − Baylor University will be closed Monday in celebration of MLK Day and several events will take place on and around campus. Baylor's department of community engagement and service will host a day of service, the Mayborn Museum will host its community day and men’s basketball will play Oklahoma State. TUESDAY, Jan. 16
Neighbor Night − Baylor spirituality and public life and the department of multicultural affairs will host the first Neighbor Night of the year to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from 6-8 p.m. Dinner will be provided for guests. The event will take place at the Bobo Spiritual Life Center, 500 Speight Ave. and is open to all Baylor students, staff and faculty. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

WEDNESDAY, Jan. 17
Moody Memorial Library Relighting − Baylor University Libraries will host the Moody Memorial Library Relighting Ceremony from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Moody Memorial Library, 1312 S. Third St. President Linda Livingstone, along with library staff, will relight the long-dormant upper level lights of Moody Memorial Library. The event will offer free refreshments, music, limited edition posters and library giveaways. Remarks by President Livingstone and Interim Dean of Libraries John S. THURSDAY, Jan. 18
Free Enterprise Forum − Richard Vedder, Distinguished Professor of Economics Emeritus at Ohio University, director of the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, and an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, will speak at the Baugh Center’s Free Enterprise Forum. His discussion, "The Coming Crisis in Higher Education," will take place from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in Foster 250. Vedder has authored more than 150 scholarly papers and hundreds of articles featured in press such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Forbes. T.S. Eliot Symposium − The English Department presents a symposium on T.S. Lewis featuring a variety of speakers. Baylor’s own Julia Daniel, Ph.D., assistant professor of English, will present her speech, “Earth and Eliot,” Thursday at 5 p.m. in Carroll Science 101. Two of the editors of the most recent volumes of “The Complete Prose of T.S. Eliot,” David Chinitz, Ph.D., professor at Loyola University Chicago, and Jayme Stayer, Ph.D., associate professor at John Carroll University, will speak as well. Chinitz will present his lecture, “Eliot’s War Years: Volume 6 of ‘The Complete Prose of T.S. Eliot,’” at 2 p.m. in Armstrong Browning Library Lecture Hall. Stayer will then present his lecture, “Three Doorways into ‘The Complete Prose of T.S. Eliot,’” at 3:30 p.m. in the lecture hall as well. Biennial Baylor Art Faculty Exhibition and Lectures − The Martin Museum of Art will open its Biennial Baylor Art Faculty Exhibition from Jan.18 to Feb. 25, 2018 and present the art history lectures from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a reception from 5:30-7 p.m. The Martin Museum of Art is located in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. Admission and events are free and open to the public. SATURDAY, Jan. 20
Concerto Competition − The School of Music will present the final round of its Concerto Competition from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Eight finalists, selected from among the talented Baylor music students who entered the contest, will perform during the concert.
