Jazz Ensembles to Perform Oct. 9

Baylor University's Jazz Ensembles will present a joint concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Jones Concert Hall. The groups are led by Vern Sielert, director of jazz ensembles.
The 19-member Jazz Ensemble II will open the program with Sammy Nestico's "Good News." Their portion of the concert also will include selections by Thelonius Monk, Quincy Jones, Pat Metheny and Brad Turner.
Following intermission, Jazz Ensemble I-consisting of 22 members-will present the Tom Kubis arrangement of Larry Shay's and Joe Goodwin's "When You're Smiling." They also will play pieces by Sammy Kahn and Jule Styne, Richard Rodgers, Dale Wilson, Bob Florence, Miles Davis, Billy Byers and Lyle Mays.
