Donald Bailey Elected to Statewide Choral Position

Dr. Donald Bailey, director of choral activities and the Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music at Baylor University, has been elected vice president of the High School/College Division of the Texas Choral Directors Association.
Bailey conducts the A Cappella Choir and the Chamber Singers and teaches choral conducting. His choirs have appeared with the Rochester (N.Y.) Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo (N.Y.) Philharmonic, the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Santa Fe (N. M.). His groups have also sung three times for the National American Choral Directors Association Convention as well as for the Texas Music Educators Association, the New York State School Music Association, the Arizona Music Educators Association, and the Music Educators National Conference.
Under his direction, the Baylor A Cappella Choir has performed for the Texoma Region Convention of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the National American Choral Directors Association. Before coming to Baylor University in l993, Bailey was director of choirs at Arizona State University, Texas Tech University, Houghton College (New York), and Eastern New Mexico University.
Particularly active as a guest conductor and high school clinician, he has conducted more than 350 high school clinics in the last 10 years. He frequently appears as an All State Clinician, having most recently conducted All State Choirs in Alabama, Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Tennessee and Texas.
