Baylor Baptist Student Ministry Hires New Staff

August 11, 1997

Carole Peterson and Rebecca Kennedy have recently accepted positions with the Baylor University Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) as missions intern and director of the Baylor Religious Hour Choir, respectively.
As missions intern, Peterson will oversee various BSM ministries including Meals on Wheels, children's ministries and children's tutorials.
As a college student, Peterson served in the Lamar University BSM where she graduated in 1993. She served there under director Clif Mouser, who currently directs the Baylor BSM. During her undergraduate career at Lamar, Peterson also participated in missions, by traveling to China after graduation and spending a summer in Maryland serving in a home missions effort.
"My goal is to make students aware of the needs of people who are hurting in our community and help them use their resources to meet those needs," she said.
A native of Collinsville, Ala., Kennedy came to Waco in 1995. She has taught choir at Tennyson Middle School and classical guitar part-time at Navarro College. She also has served as a choral music representative for Word Inc.
Teaching on a college campus fulfills a dream, Kennedy said.
"God really opened a door," she said. "I wanted to teach at the college level. This position combines music ministry and working with college students."
Kennedy earned degrees from Samford University in 1990 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994. She also has served as minister of music in Alabama and Kentucky and now assists with the Highland Baptist Church choirs.
